Effectiveness of Spondylolisthesis Surgical Treatments
The study, “Effectiveness of Grade 1 Spondylolisthesis,” was launched in 2017 with support from Medtronic and DePuy Synthes. The primary aim is to determine the optimal surgical approach (ventral vs. dorsal) for patients with a primary diagnosis of spondylolisthesis undergoing 1- and 2-level decompression alone or decompression and fusion. The study takes a cohort of 13 QOD participating sites to examine their respective surgical approach in treating patients with spondylolisthesis. Data from July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2016, is being analyzed.
Objectives
The specific goals of this study include:
- Developing a comparison of the effectiveness of decompression alone and decompression with fusion, using validated one- and two-year patient-reported outcome (PRO) data;
- Creating a comparison of the effectiveness of surgery for 1-level spondylolisthesis with 2-level spondylolisthesis with stenosis; and
- Producing an analysis of the current state of U.S. spine surgical practice regarding grade 1 degenerative spondylolisthesis, including the surgical parameters of blood loss and length of hospital stay.
